Medical Assistant Jobs in Georgia?

I just finished my courses in medical assisting in NYC and i am about to receive my degree. I haven’t gone for my certification test yet. I was told that I have to be certified for phlebetomy, ECG and then medical assisting. Is that true? Or can i just take the medical assisting state exam? How much is it to take the test and what book can I use to study for the test? Is it easy to get a job as a medical assistant in austell, marietta, smyrna and atlanta areas in georgia? What can I do to find a job quick when i move to georgia? Om scared of drawing blood. What kind of medical offices i can work for that hires medical assistant that don’t draw blood? What offices can i work for where the nurses are the only people responsible for drawing blood in georgia? My friend has 2 years medical assisting experience in NYC and she is moving to Georgia with me. How much can she ask for at a new job in georgia? 10 points to the best answer. Thanks

I think I have answered one of your questions before about medical assistants in GA. I am a CMA in North GA. I draw blood, do EKGs and sometimes vital signs. I am working as a Unit Secretary with clinical duties at a hospital. My first job was strictly clinical at a primary care office. You dont have to be certified in phlebotomy to draw blood. It was included in my training at school and I had to check off on it. I am a very good phlebotomist, but it didnt happen over night. I was so nervous when I first started, I went home and cried when I didnt get in the vein! Now I can almost hit any vein. Dont be afraid to do phlebotomy. Skill comes with time and practice. You dont have to be certified in EKGs either. The girl who trained me on my 1st job was only a high school grad with on the job experience only. She did just about everything there was in a back office, and front also. In the areas you are talking about, there should be plenty of jobs open for a medical assistant. I know you and your friend will be successful in your job search in the Atlanta area. Good luck to you!

Thomas asks…

Can I get a job as a medical assistant in California if I am not a certified nurse assistant?

admin answers:

Talk to your future employer. On the job training means more than the certification.

Mary asks…

Can a recently graduated Medical Assistant find a job without being certified?

admin answers:

Probably, but why not just get certified. If you dont get your certification, and you place your training on your application/resume, then the potential employer is going to ask why?
Do you have a good reason for not getting the certification?
Basically you can probably still find a job but not as the MA since without the certification the doctors office (or wherever you work) would be opening itself up for a lawsuit if you are in a position that requires certification and you dont have it

Steven asks…

Thinking about becoming a MRI Technologist or RN ( I’m already a certified medical assistant) which one?

Which would have a wider range of opportunity to get a job in the future?
Which would pay more?

admin answers:

Do your own research outside of Yahoo answers. Most RNs work like dogs and might have to work nights and week-ends. MRI techs don’t change bed pans and mostly work office hours. Then if they want they can take up a part-time working nights and week-ends at larger hospital. Salary.com shows that MRI tech and RNs make the same money in Houston TX. Check out the links below and do your own research. Also remember if you don’t like the job then the pay will always be to low.

David asks…

How do I become a certified medical assistant?

Could someone tell me where to start in becoming a certified medical assistant? I am a full time student now in NY in the pre-med program at my school, but I want to get my certification as a medical assistant so that I can get a job in the medical field while I am in school. Can someone who has gone through this process tell me where I can start? I looked on some websites and according to the AAMA website, there is no accredited program in NY anywhere near where I live which I find hard to believe.

The website I was on is https://www.aama-ntl.org/medassisting/caahep_prgs.aspx

Thank you!

I work at the TNCC (tennessee career center) which is a government employment agency pretty much and every state should have one. They should be able to direct to all the schools that offer that. You could also search for WIA (workforce investment act) which work closely with the new york career center and should also have information about that.
