Carol asks…
Medical Assistant? Or not?
So, I’m thinking of going to school to get my associates degree in medical assisting. I’m not sure about the job outlook though? From the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, it says the job outlook is excellent. I know that I could go to school to be an LPN/LVN for the same amount of time (maybe less) and make more money, it’s up to $4.00 more in my state but I like the job description of Medical Assisting better. I’m just worried about finding a job after school. Is there another high demand career in the medical field, other than Nursing that would take an associates degree? Please help I’m so confused. Also, anyone know if Bryant and Stratton College is a respectable school? I know getting a job has alot to do with that also. Please help. Thanks so much!

In my state, Medical Assistants are in demand and being hired left and right. That’s not true for LPNs. The pay for LPNs is better, but not by much these days. It all depends where you want to work. Plus, having a job as a medical assistant is better then no job as a LPN. Also, I recently spoke with a RN that started out as a medical assistant, and she said that she enjoyed being that more than a RN and got a ton more respect. As a LPN, I can totally sympathize.

Medical assisting is an excellent career and will get even better as the new health care law is implemented.

Sandra asks…
Tell me about Medical Assistant jobs?
I need a career change. One of the things I was curious about is becoming a medical assistant. I’ve always liked the atmosphere in doctor’s offices and because the only time I’ve been in the hospital was to have my babies I always had a great feeling in hospitals. Even with all the trips to the ER with the kids. The description at one of the trade schools said that if you wanted to work in the medical field but couldn’t or wouldn’t be able to do “blood” which I can’t then that would be the best bet. Dealing with the admin part of the medical field. I think I might really like it. But tell me, what is the degree you get from a trade school offering “medical assistant” educational courses. Is it an associates degree or is it a ceritificate. Also, what seems to be the salary for this position, I’m sure it varies state to state but an idea. And lastly anyone in this position that can give me some feedback? Medical assistants in hospitals vs. private offices etc.?

admin answers:
You should work in a hospital where there will be more benefits and higher pay. Medical assisting is a great choice and i am not sure what type of degree you get from a trade school but it Should be certified. Typically, a medical assistant will make anywhere from 22 to 24 thousand per year. This site is useful and should help you. PureMedicalJobs.com good luck
